While I offer services at multiple stages of the writing process, sometimes I touch a project on every level.
Here is a rundown of the process I used with one of my favorite clients, Lois Letchford.

In 2015, Lois Letchford came to me with a remarkable story.
At seven years old, Lois' son Nicholas was told he would never learn, labeled "learning disabled," and called "the worst child I've seen in 20 years of teaching" by the school's diagnostician. Yet she refused to let that stop him from living a life of success. What happened next was a journey—spanning three continents, unique teaching experiments, never-ending battles with the school system, a mother’s discovery of her own learning blocks, and a bond fueled by the desire to rid Nicholas of the “disabled” label. Now, twenty years later, Nicholas has received a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Oxford University and Lois has become a certified reading specialist. And, she wrote the book, Reversed: A Memoir, following their journey, now signed to Acorn Publishing. Though eager to get published after writing for more than a year, Lois knew her manuscript needed help. For nearly three years, I have worked with Lois from manuscript to publication and beyond. |
Macro and Micro Editing
Reversed: A Memoir went through fairly heavy editing. Chapter 1 alone had nearly seven first drafts.

Marketing
Writing and editing the book was the easy part. Getting it out there was a whole other world.
So, I:
-Built www.loisletchford.com using SquareSpace
-Began a blog with updates on writing, the publishing process, and reading events
-Created a MailChimp account, sending weekly emails to more than 200 subscribers
-Had my designers make a logo and create a brand
-Took professional photos

Publication
In 2016, we discovered and signed with Acorn Publishing, a hybrid publisher based out of Los Angeles. Working with a small press, however, still requires a lot of legwork, and, is essentially self-publishing. Yet now we had a team of best-selling authors and publishers on our side.
We uploaded the paperback (CreateSpace), hardcover (Ingram Wholesalers), and eBook (KDP), and worked with Damonza on a cover.

We designed posters, threw a book release party, and sent out press releases.
I created an Author Media Kit and One-Sheet (click images).
We even made a book trailer with Bounce Video, UK.
